Sunday the 19th of April - The Amstel Gold Pro Race
Today is the Amstel Gold Race Professional race. We will use our expert knowledge of the region to see the race at numerous locations, including the famous climb of the Cauberg.
On Sunday the 19th of April 2015 the 50th Amstel Gold Race will take place. The first edition was in 1966 and since then the race has become a veritable Dutch Classic. Characteristic of the race are the many twists and turns coupled with the dozens of short, sharp climbs. The event takes place in Southern Limburg (nowhere near the Ardennes) and you will be able to see that not all of Holland is flat. The event has 34 little climbs (hellingen in Dutch) and a whopping 251km.
It all came to a head at 7km from the finish in 2014 where all the favourites came together on the Cauberg and Phil Gill (Phillippe Gilbert) finished his team mate Greg van Avermaet's preparational work off mercilessly.
This event is very well organised and spectators are offered many different vantage points throughout the day whilst enjoying a few cans of Amstel. Why not?
In the evening we will return to Hotel Walram and enjoy our evening meal.
