The Giro di Lombardia (Tour of Lombardy) 2014
3rd to 6th October 2014
The Giro di Lombardia or Il Lombardia is a one-day race which tours the Lombardia region in Northern Italy.
In autumn time in Italy, the falling leaves and inevitable showers announce one the toughest cycling classics. With its winding roads and steep slopes of 14% maximum, the Giro di Lombardia also known as the 'Classic of the falling leaves' is pro cycling season's grand finale.
The century-old race in the Italian hills surrounding Lake Como has been won by Italian cycling heroes Coppi, Bartali and Moser. And also legends like Merckx, Hinault and Kelly made it to the podium.
Visit the race and capture the soul of this legendary Italian bike race. Visit the famous climbs and taste the atmosphere among Italian cycling fans enjoying their monumental meals and espresso while waiting on the road side to catch a glimpse of the riders.
Joaquin Rodrigues won the 2013 Giro di Lombardia. For the Katusha Team climber this is the second consecutive triumph in the Gazzetta Classic race after his win in 2012. Second at the end of the race's 242 km from Bergamo to Lecco came the other Spaniard Alejandro Valverde (at 17'') followed by the third placed Pole Rafal Majka (at 23''). "Purito" also earns first place in the UCI rankings, the list of the best riders of the world taking part in the events of the International World Tour.
