DUVA
INTERNATIONAL SPORTIVE, MAJORCA
Cyclo Sportive Event...
21
Apr 2008 to 28 Apr 2008

PLEASE
NOTE – THE
EVENT IS LIMITED TO 400 RIDERS, SO EARLY BOOKING ADVISABLE
Staged over two days in the northern mountains of Majorca, between
Puerto Pollentia and Soller, these spotives are ideal for the first
time continental sportif rider (with a shorter ride on the Saturday,
and a longer ride on Sunday), or as final preparation for the grand
Sportives of Europe (Gran Fondo Campagnolo, Etape du Tour, etc).
With a choice of either a full week or a short weekend break, including
transfers and entry to the races, these packages offer an affordable
way to get some experience of riding abroad, the long climbs and the
warmer weather, all of which contribute to an enjoyable (or not) experience
abroad.
Itinerary:
Seven
Night Package:
Arrive Monday 21st April
Be met at the airport by one of our transfers to take the sixty minute
transfer across the island to the Duva Aparthotel in Puerto Pollentia,
for Half Board luxury accomodation.
Tuesday
22nd – Thursday
24th April
At leisure to explore the mountains of northern Majorca. The 30 hairpin
bends of Soller climb, to Soller Col, all in under 10km, give you
a chance to experience climbing and negotiating the gradient of
a hairpin bend, at varying gradients from 5% to 9%. Or the leisurely
rides to Cap Formentor and Lluc, and for the REALLY energetic,
a chance to tackle Sa Calobra (over 10km at 7%, consistent gradient).
THREE NIGHT PACKAGES COMMENCE FRIDAY
Three and Seven night Packages
Friday 25th April
Joined by the weekend break clients the whole group will assemble
on Friday and be briefed on the following day’s rides. We will
endeavour to get riders to majorca as early as possible, with some
flights arriving as early as 9.30 am, allowing a full day in Majorca.
Saturday 26th April
An early start for the shorter course ride from Puerto Pollentia,
covering a predominently flat 95km route. Not as hilly or as long
as Sunday’s ride, this will also be a chance for the weekend
clients to warm up ready for the big one on Sunday.
The route heads out of Puerto Pollentia, through Alcudia and towards
Can Picafort. For many, this will be a familiar route as we then
turn inland towards Sineu, and back through Sa Pobla and Pollenca
Town.
Not a difficult route,
but one that will tax the “beginners”.
Sunday 27th April
Another early start and the sportive heads into the mountains for
the longer 134km ride, covering some of the most famous climbs
on the island, offering the full continental sportive experience.
The start could be quite deceptive as the flat roads heading out
towards Campanet may encourage riders to speed along, however, after
a few short climbs to Selva, Alaro and Bunyola things will string
out a little before the climb up over Soller (with the 20 plus hairpin
bends and over 6 miles of climbing), turning to Fornalutx, and then
the magnificent drop down to Lluc and the mainly downhill ride back
to Pollenca.
A classic Mallorcan route, with magnificent climbs, spectacular
scenery and some super fast descents at the end.
Monday 28th April
Sadly, an early start and back to Palma Airport for the journey home.
However, with some flighst available in the afternoon, there will
still be time for a loosener before packing up to travel back to
the UK.
