Cyclo Sportive & Gran Fondo Holidays 2012 - L'Etape du Tour, La Marmotte, Gran Fondo Milan San-Remo, Paris-Roubaix Challenge and More

Cyclo Sportives are mass-participation, semi competitive cycling events over challenging terrain.
The best known is the Etape du Tour which gives you the chance to test yourself on the actual route of one of the mountain stages of the Tour de France.

With interest growing each year in these types of events, we have extended our programme of Cyclo sportive holidays for 2012, which now includes events in France, Italy, Spain, and the UK.

The Etape du Tour is a mass participation cycle ride held over the exact route of one of the stages of the Tour de France.
As in 2011, there were will be 2 Etapes.

The Haute Route - 7 Stage Cyclo Sportive (France) - 19th to 25th August 2012 - Full details available now
Probably the toughest sportive in the World! The Haute route is a 7 stage Cyclo Sportive from Geneva to Nice, France, featuring 6 road stages of 98-171km, plus a time trial up Alpe d'Huez!

Sports Tours International are an official parther to the Haute Route.

The Gran Fondo Craft Marcialonga (Giro d'Italia Ride & Watch) -
24th to 28th May 2012 - Full details available now
The 95th Giro d’Italia will produce one of the most exciting and spectacular finales in recent years.
On this holiday you will have the opportunity to ride the Gran Fondo Marcialonga (similar to the Etape du Tour), 2 days after the pros ride the 19th stage of the Giro.
You can go and watch the Pros before you go and tackle the route yourself!


Gran Fondo Milan-San Remo 8th to 11th June 2012 - Full details available now
The 42nd Edition of the genuine Milan Sanremo Sportive, organised by U.C. Sanremo, the route covers 294kms from Milan (Milanofiori) to Sanremo, on the Corso Garibaldi, and covers almost exactly the same route as the professional race, held in March.
Famous names such as Roche, Cancellara, and recently Mark Cavendish have all won this fantastic Classic. Now it is your turn to race the Milan San Remo course.


The Paris Roubaix Challenge 2012 - 30th March to 2nd April - Full details available now
The Paris-Roubaix is one of the oldest cycle races on the professional road cycling calendar and you can be part of that history.

The race first took place in 1896, with a total of 188 competitors leaving the Bois de Boulogne in Paris and heading the 300km to Roubaix.

The cobbles remain still today, with 28 sections included in the race.

 


The Paris Roubaix Cyclo Sportive 2012 - 8th to 11th June - Full details available now
Always wanted to take on the famous cobbles of the Paris-Roubaix? Well here's your chance, with a superb Sportive which follows the exact route of the legendary course. This includes a lap of the Roubaix Velodrome.

This event attracts a truly international field, with cycling fans flying in from all over Europe to take on the three distances: the full 260km; 190km; 120km.


La Marmotte 2012 - 5th to 9th July - Full details available now
La Marmotte is a classic cyclo sportive event based in the French Alps and an ideal excuse for a French cycling holiday. It is held over a classic cycling Alpine route that rivals the L’Etape du Tour.
The Marmotte 174km cyclo sportive starts in Bourg d’Oisans and climbs the Col de la Croix Fer, Col du Telegraphe, Col du Galibier before returning to Bourg d’Oisans and finishes up the 21 hairpin bend climb to the ski station of L’Alpe d’Huez.


Gran Fondo New York 2012 - May 20th - Full details coming soon
Gran Fondo is a popular timed cycling event stemming from Italy, the biggest and most popular Gran Fondos are Nove Colli and Dolomiti, so the words New York and Gran Fondo are not normally used in the same sentence, until now.

Sports Tours International are proud to be the Official Travel Partners to this fantastic new event for people in UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia or New Zealand. Our travel packages include entry to the event and accommodation in New York City.

The Gran Fondo New York is a hilly course that starts in New York City, passes through rural roads, up to Bear Mountain in Harriman State Park and brings you back to where you started.


The Etape Atgentina 2012 - 7th to 9th October - Full details coming soon
A brand new event on the cycling calendar brings us the L'Etape to Argentina. The first La Etapa Argentina by Le Tour De France was in October 2011 and is very much in the mould of the World famous cyclo sportive L'Etape du Tour Mondovelo.

An international field of more than 3000 amateur and professional cyclists lined up to take part in the 250km ride. (Two Stages)


Gran Fondo Sportful 2012 - 17th June - Full details coming soon
Since 1995, the city of Feltre in northern Italy has hosted one of the most eagerly awaited cycling events of the year: the Gran Fondo Campagnolo, held on the third Sunday of June.

The GRANFONDO SPORTFUL has risen from the ashes of the Gran Fondo Campagnolo, which was named for the Vicenza-based company founded by cyclist Tullio Campagnolo, inventor of the quick-release skewer and derailleur. On June 21, 2009, the event took place for the first time as the GRAN FONDO SPORTFUL, “only real cyclists.” The event takes its name from the sports apparel company, Sportful, a leading producer of cycling clothing, and supplier to the Italian national cycling team.


The Etape Caledonia 2012 (Scotland) - 11th to 14th May - Full details available now
The 2012 Etape Caledonia comes in the middle of May, and covers 80 miles of the Perthshire Highlands, making it the perfect domestic preparation for any European Cycling Sportive, including the Etape du Tour.
With almost 2,000 metres of climbing it is no easy ride and will be a good indicator of how your training is going before you venture abroad. Plus there’s the added benefits of a cycling holiday in Scotland!


The Etape Hibernia 2012 (Ireland) - August 26th - Full details coming soon
The Etape Hibernia is an 82 mile (approx) cycle challenge taking place on traffic-free roads on the beautiful West Coast of Ireland in County Clare.As Official Travel Partner with IMG we are able to offer centraly located accommodation, in Three and Four Star Hotels, close to the race start and finish, on a bed and breakfast basis.
