Gran Fondo La Marmotte and the Etape du Tour 2013
Cyclo Sportive Events...
Thursday 4th to Monday 8th July 2013
Do the Marmotte and Etape double in 2013!
We offer a weekend travel package to ride both of these events in 2013.
Our travel package for La Marmotte plus the Etape du Tour is a 4 night package with our hotel in the centre of Alpe d'Huez for 2 nights followed by 2 nights in a hotel in the centre of Annecy.
We offer a basic package with accommodation only but you can build your package with different options to suit your requirements. All packages include the services of our experienced Sports Tours representatives.
You have the option of adding coach transfers, starting and finishing at Geneva Airport, although you can obviously make your own way to our hotel in Alpe d'Huez and abck from Annecy as well. We also offer guaranteed entries to these events when booked with a travel package.
Typical Itinerary:
Thursday 4th July:
Arrive at our hotel or take the option to fly into Geneva Airport and make use of our transport. We will be operating one transfer coach at 15:30 from the airport to our hotel in Alpe d'Huez (£60 return). It takes around 3 hours to complete the journey to the hotel. Evening meal at your hotel.
Friday 5th July:
You need to register today and collect your race number for La Marmotte. Registration will be on Thursday between 14.00 and 20.00 and Friday from 10.00 until 20.00. This will be in the Palais de Sports in Alpe d'Huez. There will be plenty of time today to build your bike and make some last minute adjustments if required. Our staff will be on hand to assist you.
Evening meal followed by a race briefing from our representatives.
Saturday 6th July - Gran Fondo La Marmotte 2013
The start of La Marmotte is in Bourg d'Oisans, so after an early breakfast you ride down to the start, before undertaking the 174km of the 2013 Marmotte. As it can be chilly on the way down you will want to wear some warm clothes for the descent. We will take the clothes that you use for the descent from you and keep in our vehicle for you and take it back to the hotel.
Day bag service - You can give us anything that you want to have available in the race when you stop at our feed station so you don't have to carry it all the way with you. You have to use the bag we give to you for this purpose. This could be clothes, food, energy drink etc.
Just like the Etape du Tour, there are rolling road closures, feed stops etc, before finishing in Alpe d'Huez. You will get your own personal time for the event, together with a classification. This is what people riding the Marmotte strive for - will you get a gold, silver or bronze?
After you finish, we will have a bite to eat together before we transport you to Annecy which will take about 2.5 to 3 hours. We will transport your bike fully assembled and your luggage and bike box or bag will get transported with you as well.
Please note that we will register you for the Etape on your behalf today.
Sunday 7th July - L'Etape du Tour 2013
We anticipate a 08:00 start for the Etape, so we have organised early breakfasts at all hotels so you can get to the start early to ensure everyone is lined up in the right pens for the start. The organisers allocate pens according to likely finish time and historic Etape performance, therefore faster riders start nearer the front and the slower riders at the back. Please note, we have no influence over your starting pen.
The Etape is a closed road sportive, but you must be wary of other cyclists, especially if they are going faster than you or if you have stopped. There will be water stops on route and mechanical assistance available. Along the route, there are certain times that you must have passed certain spots, otherwise you may be swept up by the broom wagon.
At the end of the Etape in Le Semnoz, our reps will be at the finish to meet you and then transfer you back to your hotel. Currently we do not know exactly where the coaches will be and they may be a further ride away from the finish area as in previous years - we will be informed by the organisers about this nearer the date of the Etape. We will be offering a shuttle service where we will send the coaches off as they fill up. At this finish area, we will also ask you to pack up your bike into your bike bag so that you can load it onto the van to take it back to the UK or to Geneva airport, or if you have made your own way to the hotel, we will take it there later in the evening.
Upon return to your hotel, you can choose to do what you wish, whether relax in the bath if you ahve one or celebrate!
Monday 8th July:
After breakfast, leave the hotel or opt for our transfer back to Geneva Airport, with it leaving at 07:00 and arriving at the airport around 10:00. We advise not booking flights before 12:00.
Prices:
£549 per person, based on two people sharing a twin room.
Single supplement: £189.
Return coach transfer between Geneva airport and the hotel: £60.
Please note that you can only book this if you arrive at Geneva airport before 15h00. We will depart at 15h30.
