MARMOTTE & GRIMPE L’ALPE D’HUEZ 2012 Cycling Holiday

Thursday 5th to Monday 9th July 2012
La Marmotte is a classic cyclo sportive event based in the French Alps and an ideal excuse for a French cycling holiday. It is held over a classic cycling Alpine route that rivals the L’Etape du Tour. Sports Tours International is an Official Tour Operator to La Marmotte.
The Marmotte 174km cyclo sportive starts in Bourg d’Oisans and climbs the Col de la Croix Fer, Col du Telegraphe, Col du Galibier before returning to Bourg d’Oisans and finishes up the 21 hairpin bend climb to the ski station of L’Alpe d’Huez.
The following day you will have another chance to climb the 21 hairpin bend climb of L’Alpe d’Huez, this time in the Grimpe de L’Alpe, 13km mass participation cycling event from Bourg d’Oisans to the ski station of L’Alpe d’Huez.
Each Marmotte rider will be given their personal time.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE
La Marmotte requires all riders to complete an entry form. The form must be completed in full and legiable and also stamped and signed by your doctor or GP. This must then be returned to Sports Tours International via the details on the form. You can download La Marmotte entry/medical certificate form by clicking here. Our package for La Marmotte 2012 is a 4 night package. You have the option of adding coach transfers, starting and finishing at Geneva Airport, although you have the option to drive yourself to our hotel in Alpe d'Huez.

Typical Itinerary:
Thursday 5th July:
Arrive at our hotel of take the option to fly into Geneva Airport.
We will be operating one transfer coach at 15:30 from the airport to our hotel in Alpe d'Huez (£50 return).
Please note, if demand dictates, we may operate a later coach, but this will be dependent upon us having enough customers for it. It takes around 3 hours to complete the journey to the hotel. Evening meal at our hotel.
Friday 6th July:
You need to register today and collect your race number for La Marmotte, from the start village, which is usually in Bourg d'Oisans. It is best to ride down to the start village on your bike and make sure everything is in working order. According to how energetic you are, ride hard or slow back up the Alpe! Please note, we will not be operating coach transfers on this day, Saturday or Sunday.
Saturday 7th July: La Marmotte
The start of La Marmotte is in Bourg d'Oisans itself, so after an early breakfast ride down to the start, before undertaking the 174km of the 2012 Marmotte. Just like the L'Etape du Tour, there are rolling road closures, feed stops etc, before finishing in Alpe d'Huez. You will get your own personal time for the event, together with a classification. This is what people riding the Marmotte strive for - will you get a gold, silver or bronze? Our hotel is well situated in Alpe d'Huez, so you wont have too far to go afterwards from the finish. Upon return to your hotel, you can choose to do what you wish, whether relax in the bath or celebrate!
Sunday 8th July:
Today, you will have the additional option of participating in the Grimpe de L'Alpe, a 13km event to get your very own time climbing Alpe d'Huez (this comes as part of the Marmotte entry should you select it). Ride yuor bike down to teh start from the hotel.
Monday 9th July:
After breakfast, leave the hotel or opt for our transfer back to Geneva Airport, with it leaving at 07:00 and arriving at the airport around 10:00. We advise not booking flights before 12:00.
Prices:
£399 per person, based on twin share. Single supplement of £100.
Return coach transfer between Geneva airport and the hotel: £50.
Entry to 2012 La Marmotte: £50 - if you book before 14th November.
Included in your Basic travel package are:
- 4 nights accommodation at Hotel Bruyeres on half board basis.
- Services of the experienced Sports Tours International team in Alpe d'Huez.
Not included (not exhaustive):
- Return airport transfers between Geneva Airport and your accommodation for yourself and one normal-sized suitcase.
- Your journey to France.
- Any meals and drinks not noted above.
- Any extras at your accommodation.
- La Marmotte Entry fee (also includes entry into the Grimpe)
- Travel Insurance - highly recommended.

At time of booking we require a non-refundable deposit per person plus any applicable entry fee. The balance of your travel package must be paid, at the latest, 12 weeks before departure to avoid the cancellation of your trip.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Visas are not required to enter France. You need a passport or a National Identity
Card (see the website of the Identity and Passport Service (IPS)) to enter
France. As a British passport holder or National Identity Card holder you
