MARMOTTE & GRIMPE L’ALPE D’HUEZ
Cyclo Sportive Event...
Thursday 1st to Monday 5th July

La
Marmotte is a classic cyclo sportive event based in the French Alps
and an ideal excuse for a French cycling holiday. It is held over
a classic Alpine route that rivals the L’Etape du Tour. (See
profile below)
The 174km cyclo sportive starts in Bourg d’Oisans and climbs
the Col de la Croix Fer, Col du Telegraphe, Col du Galibier before
returning to Bourg d’Oisans and finishes up the 21 hairpin bend
climb to the ski station of L’Alpe d’Huez.
The following day you will
have another chance to climb the 21 hairpin bend climb of L’Alpe d’Huez, this time in the Grimpe de
L’Alpe, 13km mass participation event from Bourg d’Oisans
to the ski station of L’Alpe d’Huez.
Each rider will be given their personal time.
We are offering
a long weekend cycling holiday to take part in both La Marmotte
and Grimpe de
L’Alpe events. In 2010 for the first
time the organisers of La Marmotte are limiting the entries to only
7000, early booking is advised to avoid disappointment.
Flights will be
to Geneva and we shall spend 4 Nights on Half Board basis (Bed, Breakfast & evening meal) at the ski station of L’Alpe
d’Huez.

Itinerary:
Thursday 1st July:
Arrange your own flight to Geneva airport.
From the UK www.ba.com offer direct flights from London Heathrow,
Birmingham, Manchester into Geneva, but you also may want to check
out flights with Air France. Budget Airline www.easyjet.com offer
numerous flights into Geneva from many major and local airports in
the UK. Other budget airlines that fly into Geneva include www.bmibaby.com and www.jet2.com.
On arrival at Geneva airport
you will be met by our reps. At 12.00hrs and 17.00hrs we will operate
coach transfers to the ski station of
L’Alpe d’Huez where you will spend 4 nights on half board
basis. It is approx 3hrs coach transfer from Geneva to L’Alpe
d’Huez, so our 2nd airport transfer needs to leave no later
than 17.00hrs. Any persons arriving after 17.00hrs must make their
own way to L’Alpe d’Huez.
Please make sure that you book your bike onto the flight (this maybe
at an extra cost). Flights are going to be in very high demand, so
please book early to secure a seat and get the best rates.
Those choosing the Self Drive option can leave their car at Geneva
airport and join the coach at the required times for the transfer
to L’Alpe d’Huez.
Friday 2nd July:
Free day for making any last minute preparations before the event.
In the morning you will be able to assemble your bike and go for
a short easy ride. Some time during the day we will sign on and
collect our race numbers from the start village in Bourg d’Oisans.
Saturday 3rd July:
La Marmotte (Croix de
Fer, Telegraphe, Galibier, L’Alpe d’Huez)
174km
The start of the event is in Bourg d’Oisans at 07.15hrs, so
after an early breakfast (05.30hrs) you will be able to descend L’Alpe
d’Huez to Bourg d’Oisans. Just like the Etape du Tour
there will be a rolling road closure, food & liquid stations,
and mechanical back up.
You will get
your own personal time for the event with a classification (scratch & age) and Gold, Silver & Bronze
awards. Our reps will be waiting at the finish in L’Alpe d’Huez
to meet you.
Sunday 4th July:
Grimpe de L’Alpe
13km
The start of the event is in Bourg d’Oisans at 09.00hrs, so
after an early breakfast (07.00hrs) you will be able to descend L’Alpe
d’Huez to Bourg d’Oisans for the start. This is a mass
participation 13km event and you will get your own personal time
for climbing L’Alpe d’Huez. Our reps will be waiting
at the finish in L’Alpe d’Huez to meet you
Monday 5th July:
After breakfast we shall leave L’Alpe d’Huez and return
to Geneva airport. We shall operate 2 airport transfers, the first
at 07.00hrs (arriving Geneva 10.00hrs) and the second departing at
11.00hrs (arriving Geneva 14.00hrs)
