7th Marxa Cicloturista Trencagarrons
Cyclo Sportive Event...

19 Sep 2008 to 22 Sep 2008

New for 2008!

The first event in the 2008 “Balearic Series” features a 118km ride over the Puig Major, at almost exactly half way.

For those who know the north of the island of Majorca, this will be a popular route, starting in Alcudia, through Pollenca, then up the 500m, 11km climb to Lluc monastery before travelling around the beautiful Gorg Blau and the 1000m, 12km climb of the Puig Major, before dropping back down to Lluc, down the switchbacks to Caimari, and the winding country lanes back to Pollenca and Alcudia.

For many riders this will make an ideal first foreign adventure with a route that features a fair degree of climbing (for a novice) over some spectacular terrain, and some equally spectacular descending.

Itinerary:

Friday 19th September
Arriving from various airports in the UK, the whole group will assemble on Friday evening at the chosen 3 Star hotel and be briefed on the following day’s ride. The aim is to go out along the route to familiarize the riders with the climbs, and the fast descent back to Alcudia. For the novice riders there will be a shorter ride covering the first part of the climbs.

Saturday 20th September
A leisurely breakfast and approximately 11.00am the group will set off towards Alcudia and then turn to Pollenca, and the climb to Lluc. The less experienced riders will return after the first section of the climb, the more experienced riders going on, or returning for a flatter ride around Alcudia and Can Picafort.

Sunday 21st September
An early start and a short (10km) ride to the start and the sportive. Having ridden some of the route the previous day, riders will not be encouraged to speed off and will take it easy to the climb, maybe??

A classic Mallorcan route, with magnificent climbs, spectacular scenery and some super fast descents at the end.

Monday 22nd September
Sadly, an early start and back to Palma Airport for the journey home. However, with some flights available in the afternoon, there will still be time for a loosener before packing up to travel back to the UK.
