The 97th GIRO D’ITALIA 2014

The Final Week
With or without bikes

25th May to 2nd June 2014

This week we will take you to watch the final stages of the 2014 Giro d'Italia from the third and final rest day, all the way until the final day in Trieste.

The third weekend of racing will commemmorate two of Pantani's most spectacular attacks at the Giro d'Italia. Stage 14 finishes the Oropa sanctuary, where in 1999, before he was disqualified due to a high haematocrit, Pantani chased back on after dropping his chain, passed 49 riders and won the stage.
Sunday's 15th stage ends in Plan di Montecampione, where Pantani threw away his nose piercing and managed to drop rival Pavel Tonkov to set up victory in the 1998 Giro.

For detailed info & stage profiles on the 96th Giro d'Italia visit the Official Giro website.

Please arrange your flight to Milan Malpensa International airport and either make your own way to our hotel in Ponte di Legno, the Hotel Mirella or you can take our arranged coach transport. Please advise us of your flight details nearer the time so we can welcome you at Malpensa Airport. Our coach will be leaving Milan at 15.30 to make the two hour journey.

This evening we will eat the evening meal together at the Hotel Mirella and our guides will introduce you all to each other and do a briefing on the exciting days ahead. The riders will spend the third rest day in Ponte di Legno in the Lombardy mountains before the start of the final week in the Dolomites and the Friuli mountains.

Tuesday the 27th of May - Stage 16 - Ponte di Legno to Val Martello - 139km
Snow forced the cancellation the mountain stage over the Gavia and the Stelvio and up to the finish in Val Martello in 2013 but the same short stage packed with three long and difficult climbs will be back in 2014, causing the sprinters nightmares about finishing inside the time limit.Tonight we stay at the Hotel Four Points Sheraton in Bolzano

Wednesday the 28th of May - Stage 17 - Sarnonico to Vittorio Veneto - 204km
Fortunately the finish in Vittorio Veneto offers some respite from the climbing and a likely sprint finish. Tonight we stay a second night at the Hotel Four Points Sheraton in Bolzano

Thursday the 29th of May - Stage 18 - Belluno to Rif. Panarotta - 171km
The mountains return for the finish at the Rifugio Panarotta at Pergine Valsugana. Tonight we stay at the Hotel Casgrande in Feltre like each day with your evening meal provided at the hotel.

Friday the 30th of May - Stage 19 - Bassano del Grappa to Cimo Grappa - 26.8km
Today there is a 26.8km mountain time trial from the Bassano del Grappa to Crespana del Grappa. There is a total of 95km of time trialling in the 2014 Giro and this difficult mountain time trial could shake up the general classification more than any mountain stage. Tonight we stay at the Montereale in Pordenone.

Saturday the 31st of May - Stage 20 - Maniago to Monte Zoncolan - 167km
The northeastern Friuli region hosts the grand finale of the 2014 Giro d'Italia with the final mountain finish on the leg breaking slopes of Monte Zoncolan.Tonight we stay at the Hotel Best Western La di Moret in Udine

Sunday the 1st of June - Stage 21 - Gemona to Trieste - 169km
Today's road stage and circuit finish in Trieste is to celebrate the anniversary of the return of the city under Italian control. For our final night we stay at the excellent Hotel Excelsior Palace in Trieste.

Monday the 2nd of June - Departure day
After breakfast our coach will take you back to Venice airport. We expect the transfer to take a good 2 hours so please book flights after 13.00 to allow for transfer and check-in.
