TOUR DE FRANCE 2014

Le Grand Depart - Yorkshire

Tour de France 2014 to start in Yorkshire!

The 'Grand depart' of the 2014 Tour de France will take place in Yorkshire. As the UK's No 1 Sports Travel company and cycling specialists, we will be offering travel packages to this 'Grand Depart' of the Tour 2014 in Yorkshire.

The 2014 Tour de France will be the 101st edition of the Tour and one which we already expect to be an exciting prospect. We are hoping to see many of the Tours most famous climbs and routes included. Maybe we will see the likes of the Tourmalet, Alpe d'Huez, Ventoux and many more in just one Tour de France just like we did in the 2013 Tour de France?! But we don't know yet and we won't know until October 2013, when the full 2014 Tour de France is announced.

As usual, Sports Tours International will be offering a wide range of authentic Tour de France Holiday packages, taking you close to the action and helping you experience the unforgetable atmosphere of the Tour de France 2014.

What we do know now about the 2014 Tour de France, is that it will start in the UK on July 5th. The team presentation will take place in Leeds, Yorkshire. It will be the fourth time the Tour has visited Britain after previous visits in 1974 and 1994.

By all accounts, we should see all contenders for each of the key jerseys show their hands during the UK stages of the Tour de France 2014.
The first stage from Leeds to Harrogate, covers 190km and will go through the rolling Yorkshire Dales before a long flat finish into Harrogate. One of the favourites will be Mark Cavendish, who has 23 stage wins to his name already.

The second stage from York to Sheffield covers 200km and will move through towns including Keighley, Huddersfield and Holmfirth before finishing in Sheffield. "It's going to go up and down all the time, like in the Liege-Bastogne-Liege classic," according to the Tour de France organisers.

The third UK stage from Cambridge to London is over 145km and again should see the main leaders of the peloton show their hands, especially as there will be a number of short sharp climbs this day to contend with. We can expect a mass sprint finish on the Mall at the end of a pretty flat stage. The capital staged the opening prologue in 2007 which is the last time that the Tour de France came to England.

The following day, the 2014 Tour de France will move to France and it is likely that the first time trial will be on the program although this has not been confirmed yet.

We, at Sports Tours International, have been operating trips to the Tour de France for nearly twenty years and we have unrivaled knowledge and expertise of the inner workings of the Tour. We know exactly where to take you and how to get the very best out of the Tour and give you the most authentic experience.

Imagine riding your bike on the same roads as the most famous cyclists in cycling history, over some of the battlegrounds of famous duels involving Wiggins, Froome, Evans, Armstrong, Ullrich, Pantani, Merckx and so many more heroes of Tour de France history. With any luck you may even bump into some of the cycling legends as we work our way around France or meet some of the current top pros at the stage starts or finishes.

You will see the pain etched on the faces of the pro riders as they tackle some of the hardest mountain climbs and feel the electric atmosphere of the peloton passing inches from your face, giving you the chance to take some fantastic close up photographs of the action.
