The Vosges Stages

7th to 11th July 2014

This tour is for those people who have a limited time to watch the 2014 Tour de France but who want to see some of the most exciting and dramatic stages.

The first mountain stages of the 2014 Tour de France will take place in the beautiful Vosges region of Eastern France and on this tour you will see 2 Mountain top finishes (Gerardmer La Mauselaine & La Planche des Belles Filles) plus a hilly stage to Mulhouse. It is on these stages that riders with any ambitions of a high placing in Paris must show their faces. We have seen in previous Tours de France that the first mountain stages are more exciting than some of the final stages. It is on these stages that you’ll get to see which riders are hot, and which are not.

For those bringing bikes you will be able to ride the climbs that feature on the 2014 Route du Tour such as the climbs of Gerardmer La Mauselaine & La Planche des Belles Filles

We will spend 4 nights in the city of Mulhouse at the 3* Hotel du Parc with breakfasts and evening meals included.

Please arrange your own flight to Basel-Mulhouse airport where our reps will meet you and we will offer regular transfers to your hotel in the centre of Mulhouse.

Our planned itinerary for this trip of the 2014 Tour de France - please note, this is the intended itinerary at this stage but things may change between now and the actual time of the Tour.

Friday the 11th of July:
Arrange your own flight into Basel-Mulhouse airport, where we meet you and offer regular transfers from the airport to the centre of Mulhouse where we shall spend 4 nights on Half board at the 3* Hotel du Parc.

Saturday 12th July:
It is the mountains of the Vosges which will provide the scene for the first mountain top finish of the 2014 Tour de France. On the Mauselaine mountain, above the picturesque lakeside town of Gerardmer. The stage starts from the town of Tombaline and for the first 135km it is generally flat, but then in the final 25km there are 3 difficult climbs all in succession. The Col de la Croix des Moinats, Col de Grosse Pierre with 3km at 7.5% and the Mauselaine with 2km at 10.5%.

Our location in Mulhouse is ideal for accessing the stage. After breakfast we leave Mulhouse and travel the short distance to the town of Gerardmer for the stage finish. Those with bikes will be able to ride from Mulhouse to Gerardmer (70km) or travel part way on our vehicle and ride the rest.

Sunday 13th July:
The second stage in the Vosges will start from the town of Gerardmer and finish in the city of Mulhouse. A 166km stage that will include some nice climbs in the Vosges, the last one coming some 40km from the finish. Our location for accessing the stage could not be better, as we are located in the stage finish town.

When more details of the stage are released we will arrange bike rides accordingly. Those without bikes will be able to spend the morning at leisure in Mulhouse prior to seeing the stage finish in the afternoon.

After seeing the stage in our chosen location we return to our hotel in Mulhouse and enjoy our evening meal.

Monday 14th July:
The third and final Vosges stage is a true mountain stage for the climbers and anyone with ambitions of a high place overall in Paris. It will start from Mulhouse and will take in no less than 6 categorised mountains and will finish on top of the mountain of La Planche des Belles Filles. The climb was first used in the 2012 Tour de France and the stage was won by Chris Froome and Bradley Wiggins took the yellow jersey.

After breakfast we leave Mulhouse and travel the short distance to the base of the climb to La Planche des Belles Filles, where those without bikes will be able to walk onto the climb to see the stage. Those with bikes will be able to ride from Mulhouse to La Planche des Belles Filles (72km) or travel part way on the bus and ride the rest.

After the stage finish, we return to our vehicle and get back to our hotel in Mulhouse for the evening meal.
