TOUR DE FRANCE 2010

TWO ALPINE STAGES-

Saturday 10th to Wednesday 14th July 2010

This tour is designed for those people who don’t have the time to spend 10 days or 2 weeks following the Tour de France but want to see some of the most exciting mountain stages.
On this tour you will see the main Alpine stages of the 2010 Tour de France, Morzine – Avoriaz and the Col de la Madeleiene. In between these two stages is the rest day, which gives you the opportunity to ride some of the famous Alpine climbs (Joux Plane & Colombiere).

You can arrange your own flight to Geneva airport, where our reps will meet you and at 13.00hrs and 18.00hrs we shall operate transfers
From the UK there are numerous budget airlines that fly into Geneva airport (book early to take advantage of cheap flights).

Saturday 10th July:
Arrange your own flight into Geneva, where we shall meet you and at 13.00hrs & 18.00hrs we will operate transfers from the airport in to the Alps, to the town of Cluses where we shall spend four nights on Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis at the 2* Hotel Le Bargy.
The town of Cluses (at the foot of the Col de Colombiere) is an excellent location for accessing both Alpine stages of the Tour de France, and only 30km from Morzine, 15km from the Col de Ramaz.

Sunday 11th July:
The riders enter the Alps with the 1st high mountain stage of the 2010 tour, a 189km stage that will take them from the ski station of Les Rousses to the ski station of Morzine-Avoriaz. Not only is this the 1st high mountain stage, there are two very tough climbs in the last 50km of the stage (Ramaz & Morzine-Avoriaz). It is also a summit finish and will definitely show which riders are hot and which are not……..

After breakfast we shall travel to see the stage finish at the ski station of Morzine Avoriaz. Those with bikes can ride to the stage from the hotel in Cluses, and will have the choice of seeing the stage on either of the climbs (Ramaz & Morzine Avoriaz). Those without bikes will be taken to the pretty ski town of Morzine (where there is lots to do), form where they can walk onto the lower slopes of the climb to the ski station of Avoriaz
After seeing the stage we shall regroup in Morzine and return to our base in Cluses.

Monday 12th July:
As the Tour de France spends its 1st Rest Day in Morzine, this gives us the chance to visit and explore the beautiful region of Savoie. Those with bikes will have numerous riding options that includes riding last year´s TT course around Lake Annecy (40km) or the TdF climbs of the Col du Joux Plane, Col de Romme & Col de la Colombiere (used in last year´s TdF) etc etc…….

Those without bikes will be taken to the beautiful town of Annecy where they will be able to have the day at leisure, and there are lots of things to do, including taking a boat trip or swimming in Europe´s purest lake, or strolling round the pretty old town.

Tuesday 13th July:
Today is the main Alpine stage of the 2010 Tour de France. Starting from Morzine the stage is 204km long and features 4 difficult climbs through the Alps (Col de la Colombiere, Col des Aravis, Col des Saisies, Col de Madeleine) before a descent finish to the town of St Jean de Mauriene.

Our location in Cluses is excellent for accessing today’s stage, and those with bikes will be able to ride from the hotel to the climbs of Colombiere, Aravis or Saisies. For those who want to see the stage on the final climb of the stage, the Col de la Madeleine, the bus will drop cyclists in the area of Albertville from where they will be able to ride to the stage.
Those without bikes will be taken by the touring bus to the base of the Col de la Madeleine from where they will be able to walk onto the lower slopes of the climb to see the stage.

After seeing the stage we shall regroup at the bus (base of Col de Madeleine) and return to Cluses.

Wednesday 14th July:
