Tenerife Cycling Volcano Tour 2015 & 2016
September 2015 - June 2016 (See below for dates)
Enjoy a week of cycling in Tenerife riding many of the roads used by top cycling professionals, such as Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome and Team Sky, to perfect their cycling form in time for major cycling races.
Our Volcano cycling tour in Tenerife, in conjunction with the Delgado brothers of Tenerife Bike Training, consists of amazing cycling rides, 3-8 hours cycling per day and support on the road. It's a great way of having a challenging cycling holiday in Tenerife and combining it with training.
The roads of Tenerife are fantastic for cycling at any time of the year, but especially so in the winter, when the weather is generally pleasant with daily temperatures reaching 20c or more and the weather is mostly dry.
Cycling in Tenerife is less about the mileage you cover and more about the amount of time you spend in the saddle, as there is a lot of climbing involved as you are in the presence of Spain's highest mountain.New Riders:
If you are new to riding and are looking for an exciting way to develop your cycling skills, but feel that the standard Volcano Tour is beyond your reach, then we have the answer! The New Rider version follows the same itinerary as the standard Volcano Tour, on the same dates, but offers modified versions of the daily rides, to help develop your capabilities in road cycling.
Just choose your date from the list below, book as normal, and during the booking process you will be asked if you want to take the New Riders option.
2015 Dates for the Tenerife Volcano Tour:
2016 Dates of the Tenerife Volcano Tour:
Tenerife cycling routes for the Volcano cycling tour include:
Vilaflor - approximately 64km starting from our hotel in Los Cristianos. This ride will takes us 1380m up to Vilaflor, the highest town in Spain. It's steep in places, but well worth the effort as the terrain and views change the higher up the mountain you cycle. The route back down the mountain is fast and you will speed through the corners quickly with exhilarating descents - really worth it!
Queens Day - this is the hardest day of the week. Starting in Arico, we are going to ride 130km and ascend 3300m. This is the equivalent of a hard day in the mountains during the Tour de France! We're basically riding all the way from sea level to the top of Teide and then back down again. Hopefully the early days this week will have aclimatised you for this.
Optional ride or rest day - another hard day, but should be easier than the Queens Day! 59km over 6-7 hours covering 1380m of climbing. You will have great views of the landscape as you ride along.
Kings Day - The second big challenge of the week. Today you will start in San Juan before riding to Santiago del Teide. From here you will start the 1380 m climb before a final finish in Los Cristianos.
Vilaflor + Paella Party - Today we will ride 60km from Vilaflor with a 1,200m elevation gain to a finish in La Orotava. We'll cross the whole National Park el Teide and we'll finish the route in La Orotava, in a typical Canarian House where a delicious Paella hosted by Delgado family will be waiting for you.
