Thursday 13th to Monday 24th September 2012

The World Cycling Championships 2012This is the full package, where you’ll have the opportunity to take part in the first cyclo-sportive on the actual Cycling World Championships circuit and see all the World Cycling Championship Time Trial and Road Race events.
We could not be better located for these World Championships, as you will be based in near the town of Landgraaf and Heerlen and very close to the start and finish of the World Championships cyclo- sportive event.



Thursday 13th September:

Our touring coaches equipped with box trailer for the safe storage of bikes in bike bags will make collections at:

  • Leeds Queens Hotel (City Square)
  • Manchester Victoria Train Station
  • Knutsford Services (M6 Southbound)
  • Keele Services (M6)
  • Norton Canes (M6 Toll)
  • Birmingham International Train Station (N.E.C.)
  • Watford Gap Services (M1 Southbound)
  • Junction 14 (M1 Coach Way)
  • London (Hesperia Victoria Hotel, Bridge Place Near Victoria Train Station)
  • Dover Eastern Docks (Ferry Terminal)

We arrive at Dover for our afternoon sailing to Calais, and travel to Landgraaf where accommodation has been reserved at the 4* Hotel Snow World on Half Board basis. The hotel is located near the town of Landgraaf and Heerlen and very close to the start and finish of the World Championships cyclo- sportive event.

Friday 14th September:
Today will be for having a short ride. Registration and relaxing before tomorrow’s event.

Saturday 15th September: The World Championships Cyclo Sportive
After an early breakfast, we are only a very short ride away from the start. Start times for the 85km event are between 07.30hrs & 11.00hrs and for the 170km event between 07.30hrs & 09.30hrs. There will be feed stations on the route (1 for 80km event, 3 for 150km event) and the finish cut off time will be 6pm.

Sunday 16th September:
After yesterday’s ride, we will spend today relaxing with a short ride to watch the Women’s & Men’s Team Time Trial events and there is also a cycling exhibition at Vilt, near to the finish at Valkenburg.

Monday 17th September:
Today the Junior Men’s & Under 23 Men’s Time Trial Championships take place. They both start from Landgraaf near our hotel and finish 13km away in Valkenburg. You can spend some time at the start and then move onto the finish or the climb of the Cauberg before we go back to the hotel.

Tuesday 18th September:
Today is the turn of the Women’s time trials (Juniors & Elites). They both start in Valkenburg and we will travel to see the events on the climb of the Cauberg, just outside Valkenburg. You will be able to ride there or travel on the bus.

Wednesday 19th September:
Today it’s the Men’s Elite Time Trial Championships. It starts in nearby Heerlen (near Landgraaf) and finishes in Valkenburg. You can spend some time at the start and then move onto the finish or the climb of the Cauberg.

Thursday 20th September:
There are no World Championship events scheduled for today, but there is training on the road race circuit which you can do. Alternatively you may want to visit the school & youth recreational events that are taking place at out base in Landgraaf. Alternatively we can organise a visit to the city of Maastricht.

Friday 21st September:
You can ride or travel in the bus the short distance to Valkenburg. This morning the road race circuit will be open for training for all athletes and you will be able to ride the circuit. In the afternoon you will see the Junior Women’s Road Race. Last year Great Britain had a winner in this event with Lucy Garner.

Saturday 22nd September:
This morning you will see the Under 23 Road Race and last year Great Britain got the bronze medal with Andrew Fenn. In the afternoon we’ll see the Elite Women’s Road Race and Great Britain have options of medals here with Nicole Cooke, Emma Pooley and Lizzie Armistead.

Sunday 23rd September:
Today you will see both the Junior Men’s & Men’s Elite World Championships. Can Mark Cavendish repeat his 2011 victory?

Monday 24th September:
After breakfast we shall leave Landgraaf and commence the journey back to the UK, taking an early afternoon ferry sailing from Calais to Dover and drop offs in London, Birmingham, Manchester & Leeds.
